The Carolina Panthers (8-3 SU, 5-5-1 ATS) find themselves in a tie for the NFC South lead with Tampa Bay. On Sunday they will face off against a team fighting for its playoff life, the Green Bay Packers (5-6 SU, 6-4-1 ATS) in NFL pro football sports betting action that is scheduled to take place at 1 PM ET at Lambeau Field (natural turf) in Green Bay, WI.

According to BetUS Sportsbook, the Packers are listed as a three-point favorite, with a posted total of 43 points.

Carolina actually matched Atlanta in the run game last week (134 yards to 133 for the Falcons, not to mention 5.2 yards a carry). In fact, if Atlanta hadn't gotten off to a 162-0 yardage lead at the end of the first quarter, things may have been a little different. As it was, the game was 17-13 going into the fourth quarter. Then the defense collapsed, giving up drives of 80 and 74 yards to Atlanta, and the special teams surrendered a punt return for a TD. Jake Delhomme threw for 295 yards without an interception, Steve Smith had 168 yards receiving, and D'Angelo Williams had 101 yards rushing. Part of the problem, though, was that Jonathan Stewart had only 15, thus taking away the "two-headed" element of Carolina's infantry.

At the moment the Panthers are tied with the Tampa Bay Bucs at 8-3, and despite the fact that Delhomme will not chop up the Green Bay defense the way Drew Brees did last Monday night, they may have an opponent more to their liking in the Packers, who have given up 4.8 yards a rush attempt. John Fox's team may be able to do some "clock-chewing" with this one, which is exactly where they want to be.

We'll count on Delhomme making less mistakes than Aaron Rodgers, who could have thrown six interceptions against New Orleans the other night. And there's no reason to believe that Stewart, who gained 130 yards a couple of weeks ago, can't rebound.

We understand that Green Bay is feeling a little more desperate right now, as they chase Chicago and Minnesota in the NFC North. But the Panthers are in a competitive division, not only having Tampa Bay to deal with but New Orleans and Atlanta as well. So we'll buck pointspread trends that have seen the Pack go 4-1-1 ATS in their last six and grab points with the Panthers, the three-point underdog in the BetUS NFL pro football sports betting odds.
